In 1975, Mrs Edith Lotz Moore bequeathed 18 acres of land and her log cabin in west Houston to the Houston Audubon Society. Mrs. Moore wished for this place to be preserved as a bird sanctuary for the children of Houston. Today it hosts school children for field trips, story hours, nature exploración ans summer nature camps.
Resident mammals, migratory songbirds, shore birds, birds of prey ans a variety of especies of reptiles and amphibians live within the sanctuary. Within Rummel Creek and the ponds of the sanctuary, you can find resident bull Arrows, as well as bronze and leopard Arrows. Many turtles and several especies of Water Snakes and Acatic invertebratesalso call the creek and pond habitats home.
The sanctuary is free to all for enjoyment of nature and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
